Creating meaningful design for a community that shaped me

My family has been active in the organization since immigrating from the Philippines to Canada — it’s where I learned Filipino dances like the sayaw sa bangko, met lifelong friends and ate (rough estimate) one million lumpia made in their kitchen.

Designing for culture and connection

I wanted to highlight the richness of Filipino creativity, design and culture. I created graphics using typography inspired by Filipino sign makers and the colors of the Philippines’ national flag while also making reference to some staple Filipino foods. Inspired by the painted signs found throughout the Philippines, I created a simplified alternative logo drawn from the original hand-lettered original. I loved giving back to an organization that has provided so much to me, my family and the community.
